How $ONL powers xrp.ONL

ONL connects paid platform features to verifiable burns on the XRP Ledger. You choose a service, sign a payment in your wallet, and receive the utility after xrp.ONL verifies the burn. The ONL used for that payment leaves circulation.

The role of ONL

One utility token for paid actions

Every platform action that has a price uses ONL and ends in a burn. Reading pages, searching the ledger, reacting, and joining a conversation are free. These are the ONL utilities available today:

Project visibility

Choose a positive ONL amount to boost a supported account, token, transaction, launch, or topic. Its validated burns build a permanent, cumulative visibility record.

An address-linked profile

Your first settled project burn also opens a profile for its sending address. The browser that made the request receives a proof session, and you can give the profile a public handle.

Profile withdrawal

Withdrawing a profile costs 1 ONL. The payment must come from that profile's address and match its deletion request before the profile is withdrawn.

Profiles are a platform identity, separate from a token's ledger identity. A public profile does not publish its address; a burn's ledger transaction remains public.

From request to proof

Follow one burn

The wallet signs the transaction. The ledger settles it. xrp.ONL verifies the result and credits the service once.

  1. 01

    Choose the utility

Create a request for an entity and an ONL amount. It includes a unique Invoice ID.

  2. 02

    Sign in your wallet

Use the QR code, Xaman link, or copied payment fields to send ONL to its issuer.

  3. 03

    The ledger burns ONL

A successful, validated payment returns ONL to the issuing address and removes it from circulation.

  4. 04

    Receive the utility

xrp.ONL matches the invoice, records the exact delivered ONL, and updates the service.

Request → wallet signature → validated burn → platform credit. Creating a request alone does not make a payment.
What does verification check?

The payment must be validated and successful, use the request's Invoice ID, and deliver the correct ONL currency from the correct issuer to the burn destination. The transaction hash identifies the proof and prevents the same payment from being credited twice.

The delivered ONL in the transaction metadata is the amount credited. A wallet's requested amount can differ from what a path payment actually delivers. Boost requests expire after 30 minutes, with a short settlement grace period for payments already in flight.

Keep the request open while it checks the ledger. A missing or incorrect Invoice ID cannot be matched to the intended service.

The visibility mechanism

Where a boost reaches readers

The burn buys additional chances to be discovered. Three surfaces use that proof in different ways:

Boosted with ONLCumulative burns
Entities are ordered by their total validated ONL burned. Another credited burn adds to that entity's existing total. The record is permanent; the position can change as other entities are boosted.
Empty-search discoveryOne labelled slot
Eligible boosted entities can rotate through a single labelled placement when search is opened with an empty field and no local recent history. A typed query is ordered by what the reader searched for.
Watched · LiveA bounded contribution
After an entity earns eligibility through audience activity, its ONL burn total can contribute the boost part of the Live score. A burn alone does not create a Watched position.
Live mixing weightsWhen a boost contributes
90% audience score10% boost share
The audience score includes attention, sentiment, and eligible crowd activity. The boost share is normalised against the other eligible entities; it is not a guaranteed 10% increase in visits or rank.

The 24h and 7d windows have no ONL boost mix. Reactions and visits remain their own measurements. Opening a page from the platform's discovery surfaces is recorded as discovery, so the board cannot manufacture its own sought attention.

The token mechanism

The payment leaves circulation

ONL is an issued token on the XRP Ledger. Returning it to its issuing address burns the delivered amount. That is why the payment destination and the token issuer are the same address. Read the XRPL burn mechanism.

Less ONL in circulation
The service is credited to its chosen destination. The ONL payment is removed rather than collected in a spendable platform treasury.

The ONL issuer is blackholed: its master key is disabled, its regular key is a known blackhole address, and it has no signer list. Burned ONL cannot be refunded. The reduction in circulating supply is the shared token effect of platform use; it does not guarantee a price increase or a return.

Your wallet also pays the XRP Ledger's separate transaction fee in XRP. The ONL amount pays for the platform utility. Any fiat figure shown beside it is an estimate, derived from ONL/XRP and XRP/RLUSD pools and the assumption that RLUSD holds its USD peg. About the XRPL transaction fee.

Current scope

What is live, and what comes later

Project visibility, automatic profile creation on a settled project burn, and the 1 ONL profile-withdrawal flow are live. Profile recovery, transfer, and further paid profile actions are still planned. This guide describes the implementation available at publication.

Platform articles and legal pages can receive reactions, comments, and measured attention. They participate in Watched under their page identity, but they are not boostable. Paying for visibility never purchases somebody else's reaction.

Feedback on this page

Reactions are anonymous and public, and a comment is published under a colour in this thread rather than a name. Neither changes the page — this is where a reader says what they think of it, and where we read it.
